6-10-2009 Wed

Start point: V.A. 614, Jennings Creek
End point: Thunder Hill Shelter
miles hiked: 14

It stormed quite abit last night, really close thunder and lightning a couple times that woke me up. The sun came out this morning though, so we all dried out our tents in the parking lot by the road before packing up. I took a picture because I thought it looked funny, all these hikers taking over a parking lot to dry stuff. Ziggy and Chatter showed up right before I was gonna leave, so I talked to them for awhile. Had a big hill to climb then had lunch at the Bryant Ridge Shelter. The woods right before you got to the shelter were really pretty. Lots of tall skinny trees and not alot of underbrush, made it look really spacious. Had a 2nd stop at the Cornelius Creek Shelter, talked to Gorgonzola and Denali some more. Nice hiking, even though it started raining abit after that. Apple Orchard Mtn had a nice view and crazy looking weather tower that looked like a giant soccer ball. Found a nice spot near the Thunder Hill Shelter to tent out.
